I think you have a Regular groups tags in the topics with the posts ranks too.
because my post ranks pictures are runescape armours and i think that should showned in the topic with the "Regular groups" so jst im forum mod, It will say post rank image under Regular groups image.
Is there anyway you can do this for all smfforfree forums?
If you can then do it mate :)

I like the idea.  Just as in go to membergroups and put the image as the rank instead of those stars and other ones posted by the link right there.
They have it for certain users though.  Though I dont think anyone wants to add 1000 images into there footers.

I think what they are suggesting is that there be a rank image for both the Regular Membergroup AND Post Rank Group instead of just the one Rank Image.

You could do something like that with Custom Profile Fields.   Theres a section in this guide for Secondary Membergroups:
