Couple of Suggestions

I recently became a member of the SMF Community helper on simplemachines.org, and looked at a couple of things they had there, and it gave me a couple of suggestions for here:

  • SMF For Free Community Support Helper membergroup
  • Solved topic

SMF For Free Community Helper membergroup-

We could have the option to join a membergroup on this forum named SMF For Free Community Support Helper, for the ones that are here just to help out.

With this membergroup they get resources to easily help around the forum.

The resources they would get would show only on the main index of the forum, and it would just be another menu, (Maybe it could be made with EzPortal?) and it would look like this:

Show Unread: All Unread | Replies | Announcements | Support | Bug Reports | Advertisments | Graphics

Solved Topic-

This would indicate if a topic was already solved or not. The topic starter, moderator, or administrator would be the only ones able to mark a topic solved.

If the topic was solved, the message icon would turn into a:

I think adding these would make the forum alot easier to use. And know if topics are solved or not. :P

yeah the one you put in a long time ago that colors the background is supposed to do an icon too.   Ive noticed something - If I modify a post in the boards you have it set up for, the dropdown box for Message Icons is not there.   It is in other boards.   Saw a note in the thread for the Mod at smf support but no one answered it.   Might be worth going thru the manual setup and seeing if it missed something upon install to stop that checkmark from showing up?

me too..  (but he already knows that - i bug him about it every now and then)  lol

The  SMF For Free Community Helper membergroup idea:

We all already have access to those "resources" you mentioned.  They are available to everyone.
At some point it "would" be nice if they (certain links) were more easily accessable/out in the open to everyone.  That makes more sense then just one group - it would make it so much easier for those who come here looking for help.   Why should it just be done for the very few who help out here?

I disagree.   If SMF feels he wants to create a membergroup that denotes those that help (to show his appreciation) then it would be up to him to decide who he puts in the group.      That opens up problems though.   What is the criteria other then his knowing whom should be in it.     Some will feel slighted if they arent put in the group.     Sorry - Ive seen some large and successful Support Forums go down the tubes because they got very clichy and segregated.  Ive been here 4 years now as of last week. Its been so easy going and nice around here with very few problems.    I hope we keep it that way.

Awesome! But do you think you could swap the Sponsors and Helpers colors? I think green would be better because it's like money lol.

One of those are for RC1.2 the other is for 1.1.2, so both are kinda outdated.

SMF here's the Topic Solved mod you were looking for:

http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=1601

It says it's specifically designed for 2.0 RC3 but the author says it should work with 1.1.11 as well.

Quote from: SiNaN
Although I haven't checked it, it would probably work with 1.1.11 as well.

I'm also Andrew94 on smf.org :P

I had read thru that thread before while trying to find a version that would work with 1.1.11.   They have also said that that specific mod has never worked with any version of 1.1* , was never intended to  and has not been back ported.   Package parser does not give directions for installing it with 1.1.11.    There are reasons it isnt compatible.    The differences with the display template and other templates are major from 1.1.11 and RC2/RC3.     The Moderation Center does not exist in 1.1.11.

If the Moderator Center didn't exist wouldn't the installer just skip those?

The Mod was never created for 1.1.11 and would error on install.  There would be constant errors in the log and a risk of something getting messed up.   There are major changes from 1.* to 2.* .  You cannot install a mod created specifically for 2.* on a 1.* forum, especially when it has to do with the display template and that mod does.     It would have to be "back ported" to work with the files/templates that 1.* has, and how it works, and it has not.    I doubt the author of the mod will do so.   1.* will eventually not be supported any longer.   Mod authors that create mods specifically for 2.0 RARELY will back port them to work with 1.*  Its too much work.
