WHy can't we make backups and store the backup files on our PC's(or MAc's)??
picture this;
you have spent endless days building your forum to perfection and smf has a server fail and all your post, mesages ,camments etc, are suddenly gone with no hope of return?!!?(this is how you would feel then  :tickedoff: :tickedoff: :knuppel2:)
could we please have a way to make basic backups for our forums to prevent the loss of many hard hours of work and communication?!!!!!!
that is my statement!
please consider what i have said!
thank you

You used a "one word" title for the topic.
There is some gllitch here at support and for some of the Boards if you use only one word for the topic it cannot be accessed.   SMF, or crazy, or I wind up having to fix the titles  ;)

At any rate.    This has been asked so many times here.   It is SMF's policy that he no longer does backups.  He also is not going to give any of us that kind of access to the server to do them ourselves ;)

Dont worry, they wont. I would venture to say, and I am pretty sure he does, make regular backups so if a server ever fails he can restore the data.  ;)

Should be noted that most (I did not say all)  free forum hosts do not provide backups and for a reason.
Those that do usually charge a fee;  it usually is not cheap.  SMF does do backups, and as Kimmie noted, he can restore the data.

We need to all remember this is a free service :)
YA don't always get all features when you do not pay for something, and we already get quite alot of features with this service.   (spoken as a member here, not a moderator;  I do also have a forum)

well what if for some reason we wanted to transfer to regular SMF(not the free version), and download our smfforfree boards then  upload to our host. There could just be a download button that when you press it it downloads a copy of all of your boards and EVERYTHING to you desktop or specific folder. Because I am thinking about switching to SMF and using a free host, because you get more mods and stuff, but I dont want to lose all my work on my current boards...
