Ajax Quick reply
« on: October 29, 2008, 03:03:11 pm »
The AJAX quick reply is great and fast but is it possible to make it so the page will reload instead of having it just show the loading bar up top?

The reason is because when posting at times it loads fast and so I don't get to see the loading bar when I press post so I wouldn't know if I posted it or not because the post doesn't show.

It would be cool to make a selection if you want the Ajax quick reply on or just a regular quick reply.

He added Ajax Quick Reply to all forums.  I do not think there would be a way to have both of them on your forum at once and give you a choice between them.

It's really annoying because it doesn't seem to be functioning correctly. I know it used to update the topic view without refreshing after posting, but now, while posting through quick reply, it just shows the 'Loading...' bar on top for a while, so I can't really see my post without refreshing, which ruins the actual purpose(posting without refreshing).

When there is a lag or slowdown Ive noticed that but 90 percent of the time (on my own forum) it is automatic  (that took awhile to get used to knowing the post really did get made)   but its been working fine on my own forum -  I have test forums on all of the servers so I checked -  no issues with them either.   Ive never seen the loading bar when using Quick Reply .. odd.

I use quick reply for almost everything. I see the "Loading..." and see my post right away unless my computer does a hiccup.

Edit: Now I was just watching and I did not see it here....

hi Molly ltns  ;)     I rarely ever see it on my forum as well and I use quick reply on it all the time.   The only time I ever see it is when looking at the board index, clicking next to a board name to change the name of it.. then it comes up for a few seconds.

The actual post isn't showing up until the page is refreshed. It used to show up on other forums, so maybe this is a problem restricted to this forum?

I logged in over there and made several posts.  It worked for me each and every time.    (I am using IE 7.0 and did not try it with Firefox and I know some of you do use fox)     Only thing I can think of is a possibly browser issue, java issue on your machine.  Check your latest version - I left you info in the thread where I tried it there.    Dunno what to tell you guys cus it worked perfectly for me.   Each post I made using Quick Reply posted immediately with no refresh and their was no huge stall waiting for any of them to load.

Edit:  Logged back in using Firefox and it worked fine using Fox too.

Made 10 posts total -  not one glitch

I hope the issue is only on our side.

No idea -  it worked perfectly for me.    death let me know that it works okay for Moose on his computer too and that he thinks it is something on his machine.    Make sure no other instances of java exist on your computer... always wise to uninstall them first, do a reboot, then install the new one.

er.. I cant read what you were typing in the video or really see what is going on but no-matter - already understand what you mean

I don't think java should make much of a difference though, this is Javascript based which depends on the browser.

For me, it does work.  It used to not though.  When SMC was still open, I would try to use the quick reply and it would keep the loading banner thingy there, so I had to copy the text that I was going to put in a post and just do a regular reply.

But now, it works fine.  Apparently for death, it doesn't.  I don't know why since we both use the same computer.

Totally dont know what is up with it.  I was over there earlier and posted again (twice)  using quick reply. It immediately posted the post, as it should.
