Hello, i just thought it would be a good idea to have forums awards to the poeple have the most post, and the people who have been really helpful and have stayed out of trouble....i

I just think it should be a thing for the SMF For Free Forums... i mean like inthe singatrue it could say like what the won, with like a trophy in front of it, and the number of how many people have won it!

Like an award for:

most post

most helpful

most comedy (maybe not)

most serious

most trustworthy

Sorry for the people who have already voted, but i added a new option

*I just dont think it's fair*

I vote no/not fair because everyone helps out each other and post count shouldn't really matter.  Another reason, which I may get yelled at for, is i wouldn't use this on this forum because this forum is meant mainly for support, not to see who is most helpful/ most posts, etc, etc.  I hope this doesn't sound like im bashing you, cause im not intending to.

As a rule i dont care much for awards, people tend to try too hard or do things they wouldnt normally do just to win an award thus making that person less real to me .

I am however all for recognizing someone for going above and beyond.
On other sites i own and hang out on we simply make a secondary member group for this purpose.
Something like "VIP" or "Outstanding Poster"  or some such , then when you want to reward someone for all they do you bump them to the new group :)

Sometimes, when I remember, I like to thank members for helping us all out. But honestly, without the dozens of smaller hellers around here that have come and gone...well...I would be screwed.

Thanks to those of you who have the time to help out a lot. Helping out is such a gratifying job eh?
And just as much thanks to the people who don't have a lot of time to donate, but do what they can. You may not help out as much, but collectively you are just as, if not more, important.

Helpers around here I find simply help out how they can with whatever time they can give...and if thats 5 hours or 5 minutes it is just as awesome. The people who help out a lot certainly get more recognition, and they do deserve to, but hey!, the little guys should get a pat on the back too.
Awards would just further recognize the really helpfulnpeople when we struggle to thank the little guys.
Did my answer help you? Want to help out hosting costs?

Well, I think the people that do help a lot get recognition already. And considering the way users ebb and flow, who knows who will be around long enough to recieve their awards?

I don't "support" the idea personally. I think that a simple pat on the back and thank-you is all that most helpers should need. But, I'm not saying no either.

Agree with ya Crasy.   I do need to remember more often to give a few "kudo's" here and there myself cus there are many people who do jump in and help out here often.

I do not support the idea personally either and here is why:

Used to be people did things to help out (not only on forums but in their "real lives")  just because they wanted to help, and expected nothing in return for it.     If we were to give rewards to people for posting the most, for helping out here..   it could very well lead to people doing so just cus they think it is cool to get a reward and not because they just plain like to help and want nothing in return.   People who do help out here ARE noticed and are very much appreciated -  Im sure by all who come here looking for help.

I think a simple thank you in a support forum is really all that is needed.  I thank people both in open forum and by pms, and don't think special award ranks for this forum are required.
