3D boards

You should have the boards like a 3D sort of thing so if you imagine that all the boards names are on a wheel and you are viewing one, then you click an arrow button and the wheel turns and you can see the title of the next board. Ok Now the wheel is invisible so the boards titles are just floating and you can put in a cool background of the sky or something and it would look amazing

Doubt it exsist, besides I like the forums the way they are. 3D would be a a great showoff, and in my opinion, thats not good.

Have to agree with Vorro here, it might look good but it would be a major gimmick.  Plus, would it not simply slow the whole thing down?

I would rather have a quick loading page than a whole host of gimmicks!!!

so just buy an extra 1gb of ram and load it up then rune forums from 2gb ram off comp not hard, even more you could have more Ram to make the 3d boads load as quickly as normal boards plus it save space so more room for othr things

So you want all users to upgrade their hardware so you can have 3D boards, think you are losing the idea of free in your desire for gimmicks!!!

yh coz £50 to buy a 1gb ram slot is alot of money, the money brought in from adverts probably blows that price away

Well, these forums SMF gives us are free, and take alot of time and effort on his part to maintain. I seriously doubt 1Gb of RAM would suffice for "all" the smf forums he hosts, not to mention the bandwidth they would need lol.  Not only that, there are alot of people who's computer would not support all those 3D Graphics and it would entail them upgrading equipment such as video cards on their part as well. With what you are suggesting, it sounds like you need to utilize a forum that you can host on your own server for your members.  ;)

ok not everyone is gonna download this feature sum people think it is stupid and still if 1gb is not enuf then he can buy more like i said the ads pay in alot of money and updateing your graphics card for something that basic is FREE  and the 3d graphics don't have to be at game quality do they? you can have lower quality 3D grpahics that still look good ;)

Theres alot more entailed to what you are asking than what you think. It doesnt matter Where the graphics are "hosted", a person who has an older computer may not be able to utilize the graphics for a number of reasons, Their video card is too old, and the manufacturer no longer makes updates for it, therefore they would have to get a new video card. It also takes RAM on a persons computer to process the images. SMF could have tons of RAM on his servers but if the people trying to view the forum dont have enough on their system, then "they" would have to have more. Nether of which is "FREE"  lol

I think the point, although maybe well intentioned, is mute on this one..

I don't see it ever happening and for good reasons  ;)
