[Suggestion] Ban Notification
« on: July 21, 2009, 05:54:56 pm »
Forum Url: http://mars.smfforfree.com
I'd just like to suggest something. :)

If you give a member a full ban and they try to log in, instead of it not giving a notification that you're banned.  It should tell you when your ban will expire and why you're banned.

I just want my banned members to know that they're banned when they are given a full ban.  adding this feature will prevent such confusion such as them thinking they have not entered the correct password and keep attempting to login, not knowing that they are banned.

Thank You
-Marc

That is already possible.
When you create the ban there is a block where you can fill in the information that you want them to see.
Admin CP Ban List Section Guide

Well when you're not allowed to login you are not given the notification, I've seen myself by testing it.

When you try to login, it is hard to understand that you're banned since no message is shown and nothing shows up even if I fill in the blanks you mentioned while attempting to login.

Odd because I had someone ban me on their forum to test it and it showed the notification, with the reason for the ban,  the second I got the the forum.

Could it have something to do with what server you're on?

No..   the software and settings are the exact same on all servers.
I found the thread where I had the guy do it and it has the reason on the screenshot I showed him
http://www.smfsupport.com/support/general_support/questions_about_guests-t22042.0.html;msg84308#msg84308
(and not that it matters but it is the same server)

See where it says "proxy" ?     That is what he put as a reason.

If you want to test it on me Ill register then full ban me with a reason and pm me to let me know and ill go back to check it for you.

I saw.  Will it only give a notification if you ban a Guest?  Because when I banned someone they registered on the forum already.

If you IP ban someone when they go to your forum they will get the notification.  It won't even let them try to login (so long as they are on a full ban, or one that does not allow logging in).
If you only ban their username and email address it wont know who they are until they try to login (obviously) and will send it to them when they try to.
