Putting the Forum inside a Table
« on: May 24, 2007, 04:43:38 pm »
OK, in response to many of my RPG friends who won't try SMF without knowing how to put borders and a table around a forum, I have been working on it.  I've got at least one method pretty much down, but there are spaces in the tables showing the background. Basically, I am using the headers and footers to create the tables, and putting the borders in their own data cells.

I reduced the table padding to 0, but it's still acting like it has padding.  Ideas?

Here's what I mean - this site is just for testing skins.

Not sure exactly what you are looking to do with it but in cleaning up the code try this:

header:

Code: [Select]

<table>
<tr>
<td width="15" background="http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p133/lts19/side.jpg"></td>
<td width="25" bgcolor="#672501"></td>
<td width="25" bgcolor="#672501"></td>
</tr>
</table>

footer:

Code: [Select]
<table>
<tr>
<td width="25" bgcolor="#672501"></td>
<td width="15" background="http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p133/lts19/side.jpg"></td>
</tr>
</table>

I had already tried that.  It doesn't work.  The only problem I have with it now is that it shows spaces between the tables.  If I close the tables, they don't show up at all.

I'm trying to make a background, and then a table on top of the background which forms a different color background for the forums.  It's a pretty common forum design trend.

Here's a (bad) example. It was a skin I did as a joke

Awhh okay.
I have a couple of ideas rolling around in my head but unfortunately I have no time to work on them until around June 11th.    To be honest though I am thinking the only way you could achieve this properly would be if you have your own webspace and to put the forum inside a frame on it.
I'll mess around with an idea I do have though in a couple of weeks...

Yeah I already have.  I wanted to see if I could do it on here for some friends.
