General Support / Removal of forum

Hi SMF. Could you please remove the above forum as it is no longer used and therefore no longer required. I have removed all posts and boards and deleted all members, but since the move to the new servers I can't remove anything from the headers and footers and I can't modify the style to remove logos etc.

Thanks
Ady

General Support / Re: maintainence mode

Good morning Sibyl, long time no speak. I hope you're keeping fine. Yep, unfortunately my club is breaking up due to lack of use by the members. Seems like nobody does anything during the day worth talking about and everybody is waiting for everybody else to post. I've got to the point now where I haven't got the heart and enthusiasm to run the club anymore, and seems like no one else wants to do it either, so I'm going to be shutting it done. I thought I'd read somewhere that to shut down a forum you just had to put it into "maintainence mode" and at some point after a certain amount of time, SMF would remove the site. That's why I was asking. Thanks for your reply.

If someone wants to close down their site, what is the proceedure now please??

Cheers for that Arekay, interesting reading. I've decided to go with the watermark option cos I know how frustrating it is to sit there and try and remove it. See below

What the hell this time!!

This is getting just too frequent! I don't think we've managed to go a month on the run without some sort of "connection issue", or "hardware issue". When are these problems going to get sorted out once and for all?

Yes, I have found how to change my displayed name.  However if I set my displayed name to "George" for example and make a post and then changed my displayed name the post that I made when I had set the displayed name to "George" updates to the new displayed name.  Is it possible to have Aliases? so that when you make a post under a certain name it stays under that name?

Thanks
Silver01

Don't know if this will help, but as admin you get a lot of extras that regular members don't. You also see the forum in a much different light than the regulars, so what I did was register under another name (using same PC, so same IP address). Now when I've done something to the site like add banners and stuff, I simply log out as admin and log in using my regular member log in details. Now I see the site as a regular member. Perhaps you could register a few different names and passwords, but it would mean logging in and out when changing ID's.

Thank you for the tip.  Silly question now is, will I be able to see how has deleted the post?

Thanks again!

Do like he said above, then register yourself as a new member called ADMIN, GRASSHOPPER, MONKEY, whatever you want, then log in under the new ID, and delete a post (which will now go to the new board for admins eyes only). Log back in as your normal self and see what info turns up in the new board (which you will be able to see because you are admin).

I can't assure anything. We moved to the new servers  in June due to network connection issues otherwise I would have stayed there. I can try my best but it is tough without any other resources to manage it all.

Hey, don't get me wrong SMF, I don't blame you for in any way for the down time issues, in fact I admire the speed in which you resolve problems on here. I was merely pointing out that we seem to have more down time with the new servers than the old ones. I also fully understand the problem of not having funding to be able to do more. As admin on my site, I continuously seem to be delving into my pocket for one thing or another, ie ad removal credits, dynamic banner etc, and then of course there's all the time involved adding widgets and playing around with Ezportal, none of which the other members can do or would want to do.
You just keep up the good work that you're doing SMF, cos I for one appreciate it, and maybe one day the servers will get the hardware or what ever it is right. My appreciations also extend to the helpers out there, especially that little gem Sibyl :smitten:

Same here! Really slow tonight and has now come to a grinding halt.
There has been more problems in the last couple of months than we had all last year. We were also assured that moving to new servers would be better for all of us, it's not really looking that way. :(

Yep, sorry to have to add my name to the list of slow running sites. Pages seem to take ages to load, even had time to rustle up a good old english breakfast this morning while waiting. ;D
