General Support / Re: Permissions Help
« on: June 14, 2008, 03:23:59 pm »

Hi guys, especially all the "oldens" out there. I have decided to go back to SMF For Free. Anyway, enough about that waffle, let's get down to my problem.

It's very simple, I'm using a url ending with smfforfree.com and I've forgot how to change board Permissions. Eg: I want someone to see the board, yes I know how to do that, but I want them to not be able to create topics and write posts in it. Is that still possible? I hope so, just me going rusty. Please reply back A.S.A.P.

Regards,
          Little Kidder

Hi kidder  :)   I just now came across this!  Welcome back!

Sounds like you have enabled "Permissions by Board"

In Admin > Boards on the Settings page if you have Enable advanced by-board permissions checked you won't see the settings Java mentioned when Modifying a Board.

You can still do what you want to do but to do so you'll need to click on Permissions by Board in the Admin > Permissions section.
Find the board you want to do it to, click on the name of it.  You will then be at the Membergroup Permissions page for THAT Board.   From there you will have to modify each Membergroup and set the permissions as you want them for that board.

You must be happy I quoted. ;)

Sorry about the delay of me replying, I completely forgot I made a thread here, sorry.

Anyway, to buisness. I don't seem to have Boards and Settings. Whether or not my board has been updated or not I am not sure. As I said in the previous post, my SMF Version is SMF 1.1.4, the one below the one on the Support Forum. Does this make a difference? I'm not sure, I feel so new around here again.

Regards,
           Little Kidder (Laugh n' Kid)

Just to make clearer - Games means Display Name, not username.

« on: February 18, 2008, 03:20:12 am »
You can't HIDE a forum, first of all they're checkboxes. First you must go into where you edit the forums and go to permissions, then there's loads of checkboxes. If you want to get rid of all of them seeing (even admins) untick all the boxes. However, say you wanted to let everyone but ordinary Members see... do the same princable but tick the Members box.

First of all to take a screenshot at any point of a game you must press Control and Print Screen. Next, you need to go up into paint or something like that and control v into the paint. Save the screenshot. Then, as Sean said, you must upload it into something like www.photobucket.com or www.imageshack.us, and then you get a URL for the forum use, then you just add that URL into the forum post.

Note: I've tried this on my first forum and that's how I had to call SMF For Free and not have my forums for 3 days. Beware.
