My board's members are generally older folks & with that comes bad eyesight.  To help them out, I changed the button images that we can change to these much bigger ones...  One note... please SAVE them & host them yourself.  I will probably move them eventually & if you're not handling your own hosting, they'll be missing on your site!  I personally use photobucket.com and imageshack.com...  very reliable.

Anyhoo, here they are... hope someone finds a use for them:

PS Hope this was the proper place to post this!

Alrighty...  I got it to work for most of the forum.  Strangely enough, I did exactly what I've done in the past.  For some reason, it worked differently this time.

I created a new style & named it "test style."

Then, I clicked the "modify style" button & changed any "small" font to "medium" and any "medium" to "large."  Likewise, anywhere I saw something like "9pt," I bumped it up to "12pt" or so.

I then selected the "test style" as the one for the forum to use & instead of everything coming out white, it looks exactly as it did before, but with bigger fonts throughout most of the forum...

Awesome!

Now, if only I could change the "post reply" images etc!!!  :D

I thought I'd bump this thread...  Being able to substitute my own buttons - specifically the "new topic" and "reply" buttons would be great.  The default ones are a bit small for folks with bad eyesight.

I've already substituted the ones that we can already substitute (login in, register etc,) and the folks really seem to have appreciated it.

Having them change the font size on their browsers would be the easy explanation & solution, but most of the users of my forum are older folks & not the least bit computer literate.  I'm just impressed they manage to find the site & register.  It's a support group for widows & widowers, so by default, most of the members are older folks.

I guess I'll play around with the site & if I come up with something functional, I'll share it... although, that seems unlikely.

Admin, you guys got any suggestions?

Clearly, I don't understand all the terms involved.  Basically, I just want the font on my page to be bigger without having to change anything else.  What's the easiest route?  Do I need to create a whole new theme or style?  If so, is there one I can download to my page that mimics the default one that I can easily manipulate without having to learn the entire code for the themes?

Thanks!

General Support / Creating new theme for small change to default theme...
« on: October 08, 2006, 06:39:50 pm »
I'm quite satisfied with the default theme - generally.  My group is made up of mostly older folks & many have complained that the default theme's text is too small to read.  Having them change their browser's settings isn't really an option as many or most of them aren't very computer literate in the first place.

Anyhoo...  when I attempt to change the them or create my own, instead of starting with the default theme (something they'd be familiar with if I just made small adjustments,) I'm presented with a theme that is very different from the original. There's a whole lot of adjustments that'll need to be made to it to make it look like something my members are familiar with.

Is there anyway to make the default theme the one you start with when you hit "create theme?"  That way, I could simply change the font size to 14 or 16 or whatever they're comfortable with.

Thanks...
-Brian

General Support / Re: How do I allow members to hide their IP?

Privacy was the reason...  I didn't realize that regular members couldn't view other member's IP addresses.  If someone has access to a series of your IPs, they can do nutty things.

Yeah see it would be better to do that. Also it really does keep login me out by it self :(

You might have a cookies issue with your system...  Likewise, you might try to make sure you have a pretty big number in the little area where it asks you how long to stay logged in..

Thanks a million for getting that fixed...  it was pretty quick.

What was the problem?  Would upgrading prevent this from happening, again?

I've had it happen several times, but only with specific games.  I 'uninstall' them to keep my members from complaining.

Being that multiple people use my PC, the feature is useful...  I don't want others to have instant admin access to my forum if I forget to log-out.

Suggestions / Unique start page?
« on: April 16, 2006, 01:54:17 am »
I'd like to suggest the ability to create a simple & unique 'start page' similar to the one here:
http://www.grumpy-old-git.com/

My group is comprised of a whole bunch of not-so-computer-literate people & the ability to direct them to a more simple page would be a big bonus.

If this is already available...  any hints?

Thanks
