That makes sense. Thanks for the quick response, SMF. =)

General Support / [SOLVED] Shoutbox History Viewable To Everyone
« on: March 27, 2012, 01:11:47 pm »
Forum Url: http://www.mlno.org/
Okay, let me first start off by saying that I understand that the shoutbox typically is something that can be seen by everyone on different forums.

The issue here, is that if the shoutbox is set to only be viewable by certain membergroups, if people who don't have access can get the shoutbox history URL, they can then view what is in the shoutbox, even though they can't post anything. My forum uses the shoutbox as a place for staff members to communicate quickly, and in a manner of speaking, that is, in a way, a way to get around our security.

The thing I've noticed is that the shoutbox history is a totally separate part of the site, separate from chat, separate from the EZPortal settings theoretically, and separate from the shoutbox block settings. The first and third theory is true, since both the chat and shoutbox features are staff-only currently. My question is if it's possible to either set the shoutbox history to run off the Shoutbox permissions, or to have a separate permission set for the shoutbox history itself.

I've been getting occasional 503 errors, along with a timeout just now.

Just wanted to let you know.

I'm sorry to continue bringing bad news, SMF, but... The board started timing out again about 2 minutes ago... And it gave me the 503 error again on my last refresh just now...

Oh! The forum just went down again; and it gave me that error I was talking about, as i was refreshing it while waiting for it to return.

It's been up and down today... This is about the third time it's gone down, and it's returning the 503 error again.

Though, earlier today it gave a weird 500 error, but cleared up right after. It's cleared up again, but I thought it's something to let you know about. =)

Suggestions / Spoiler Tags

I understand that there are codes for this purpose, but... those only activate once the page is finished loading, which is sometimes after the member starts scrolling down.

Is it possible for you to add spoiler tags integrated into the boards, or will coded spoiler tags be the only option?

Our forums have been up and down a couple times today, and two of the times(Around 2:00 maybe and just now), I got this error...

Title bar: '503 Service Temporarily Unavailable'

Page content: "Service Temporarily Unavailable

The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later."

Just wanted to point it out, because it might be a server thing. Both times it came up after a second or two, but I just wanted to mention it before it became an issue. =)

To chime in, I tried two sites on servers 2 and 4(As well as MLNO), and they're timing out as well.

If it was just MLNO, I'd think that it was related to the custom URL, but that wouldn't explain the other two sites...

Alright; just tried a game that has scores recorded on our site already just now.

It's stopping at the submit score part(like on the Megaman game; on that it's a black blank screen; on the other one I just tried, minigolf, it's a dark green blank screen). It's also not recording scores, even though there are scores from the 9th of June and earlier.

I'm going to try some others that some of the members have been noting as unable to work.

General Support / Arcade Question
« on: June 15, 2011, 09:40:38 am »
All games are supposed to be able to submit scores, right? Because I was just playing two of the games that were recently added, and I can't get them to submit scores. They're the two Megaman fangames; 'Megaman Project X' Levels 1 and 2.

That seemed to fix it for a few minutes, aside from two occasions of '503 Service Unavailable', but now it's resetting the connection again...

/EDIT: Unless you haven't added it to 4/CreateAForum yet...

Graphics / 3D Modeling
« on: June 14, 2011, 02:47:11 pm »
Alright; no clue if this is the correct forum for this, but I think it is.

I'm wondering about certain things about 3D models for projects I eventually want to do. However, I'm just looking into 3D stuff that isn't pre-built in games. =P

So, my question is, is it possible to have a base model; and allow certain events in something like a game to add a 'skin' over top the model, while preserving the rest of it? So, for example, allowing a person to have, say, a weapon appear on his arm, while leaving the rest of his appearance and clothes like normal. It wouldn't be like transformations you see in some games(Like the Megaman Star Force series), where the appearance changes fully into an armoured state; if we go with that example, it'd be localized.

I'm just curious if a simple 'layer' could be added, or if I have to make an entire skin for each different section. Again, just looking into 3D stuff, so if this is obvious, I'm sorry. =P
