General Support / SMF Ajax Chat
« on: February 06, 2011, 05:14:39 pm »
Forum Url: http://thewest.smfforfree.com/index.php
I have a question regarding the chat application
We are a couple of hundred guys that play an online game.. called The West
We have Fort Battles .. which are generally the Attackers and the Defenders
We normally use Chatango to communicate amongst ourselves.. but can't stop spies

What I want to know is.. with the Ajax Chat app in SMF.. can we limit who can chat
Say I get them to register on my forum in their alliances... then the alliance gets put into membership groups by me

*** Will the one group be able to be blocked from communication or viewing the channel of the other ?

*** What really are the channels in the Application ? Are they from our Chat in the Forum.. or are they from all of SMF forums?

General Support / How to rename browser tab?

I've noticed that my tabs aren't 100% correct

It should read "South Africa Today Networks" on my Portal page
But it says "South Africa Networks Shoutbox"
I don't mind if it says either... but don't like the Shoutbox piece

I might be the cause of that... but honestly can't remember...any advice?

General Support / Portal Distorting

Hello

Was just wondering if my portal distorting is a problem with SMF and not my side ?

It loads pretty well... then within a few seconds... the middle drops a bit... and the right hand side even more.
This never happened before and haven't done much changes lately.

Thanks

Ok.. so it's me again with the possibilities & impossibilities  ;D

I was wondering if there is anyway possible to have a drop-down box for members to select when they sign up... for:

What typre of membership they would like
  • 1. Film Makers
  • 2. Schools
  • 3. Tourism
  • 4. etc
  • 5. etc

From there on.. they will only be able to see forums and post that pertain to that group.. and news for all groups in general.
I know I can assign them to permission groups after registration.. but looking for an alternative upon registraion  ;)

Mainly so that forum doesn't get too cluttered & don't have to create too many Sites.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

SMF For Free Codes and Support / Skin Chooser
« on: October 11, 2010, 05:00:34 am »
I am trying to allow members (or visitors.. no restrictions).. to choose their own skins
I looked for ages through past posts.. but everything is so old.. or dead.

I can't use this code if its not working... or where can I activate it in the control panel ?

Control Panel
Allow members to select their own themes.
Allow members to select the "Default" theme.

Both are checked.. but nothing shows up???  :(

Was just wondering whats up with the collapse buttons on my forum.
I have gone through all the boxes on my portal ... one by one... and ALL blocks are unchecked on:
EzPortal ezBlock Manager => Additional Settings [] User can collapse this ezBlock

I don't know where else to get rid of this collapsing option... I don't want it

Please see pics.. Thanks

General Support / Extra Portal Blocks
« on: October 01, 2010, 05:02:33 pm »
Is there any way to add more ezBlocks/Portal blocks to the "Legacy Portal Settings" in SMFforFree ?

I see that CreateAForum has a few more than yours.. and like the extra options... but prefer SMFforFree
I know its a minor dilemma.. just wondering if there's anyway to add others myself

General Support / Register without an email
« on: September 23, 2010, 07:19:41 pm »
I was just wondering if it was possible, as Admin, to pre-register members without using an email?
Other forums allow you to switch the duplicate email on/off when registering... and where would I find this in the control panel?

As Admin... I would like the ability to pre-register with or without the same email for online members only
