General Support / Re: Server 1 is very slow
« on: March 06, 2007, 12:31:03 pm »
as stated above after testing several sites Im finding all forums ending in smfforfree.com whether upgrading or not are slow and all ending in smfforfree2.com are fast.  Given this, how is upgrading going to help us with the speed?

Excellent question.  It is very clear that upgrading is not the solution to the problem.

So incredibly sad about this whole thing.  It is SO much worse than it used to be last fall when anyone could have four million smileys and everyone was on the same server.  That does not make any sense to me.  At all.

Totally agree with this - things are just getting worse.  I'm seeing these issues with my forum daily now.  I just had a huge post wiped out by the Connection Problems message, and it's happening to my members as well.  Just endlessly frustrating...

I (and I know I speak for Foxx as she is my partner in our forum) do not want to move to server 2!  If server 2 had some options that were to our aesthetic liking (i.e. smileys that don't suck and a background that doesn't blind you) then perhaps we would consider it.  Maybe it would be a BETTER idea if SMF fixed server 1 so it worked more than 30% of the time. ;)

Quoted for truth.  If the only solution is getting a new forum on server 2, I'd rather just find a different service altogether.

This is terribly inconvenient as, at our board, we use the service to host Talkbacks for the numerous articles we host on our main web site.  So little notice, not even a hint at the possibility of dropping the sub-domains... just plain thoughtless.  My webmaster is facing hours of re-coding just to keep our site functioning as seamlessly as possible.

THANK YOU, SMF!  That was a wise decision, I think.

There is already a topic about these ads made

http://www.smfsupport.com/support/general-support/ads-in-posts.0.html

Please post in that topic if you have anything to add.

Why not merge the threads?

Its only on Server 1 and only on the default theme. I will run it for a couple days and see how it goes.

No one on my forum uses the SMF Default Theme, but I still have people getting bombed with ads.  The ads are derailing discussions and driving my posters away.  SMF, I appreciate that your service requires ad revenue to function, but there has to be a better alternative.

Agree 100%.  We get enough spam in our mailboxes and bots joining the fourm to place ads without having it built into the software.

If the ads stay in posts, I'll be closing my forum and going to another provider.  I'm getting nothing but complaints from my posters, and I can't say as I blame them.

I have members having the same issue now.  Do we know what causes this or how to prevent it?

General Support / Forum Not Loading
« on: December 06, 2006, 11:24:26 pm »
My forum ( http://apokolips.x47.net ) is only loading sometime when I try to go there.  It's giving me the Blank White Screen of Doom, forcing me to refresh it repeatedly.  After about the 4th or 5th time it will load.

Is there a server issue?  SMF, can you head this off before it gets worse?

Thanks for the hard work.

General Support / Board no longer tracking hits...
« on: October 13, 2006, 12:51:39 am »
apokolips.x47.net

In the More Stats section, I have daily hit tracking enabled.  On 2006-10-04 we had 1739 hits counted, and every day since, we've had 0.  I checked the settings and hit counting is still enabled.

What's up?
