General Support / Re: Help me in adding new stars to my member group.
« on: November 17, 2013, 11:39:54 pm »

i am just someone who has used smf for free for a long time, i am not a support person here.

honestly i learnt the ranking from doing this http://www.smfsupport.com/support/guides-and-tutorials/%28guide%29-how-to-use-your-own-rank-images/

you need to take time, you need to check each step, if you dont understand go back a couple of steps and make sure you do. Honestly it does work and it can look great changing them to things you wish.

a hint i can give you, is to make sure the file names are the same, if i remember correctly.

this use to happen to me, for me it was because my forum was the one thing i was always on it was in the cache.

a couple of ideas -

Use F5 - this gives a hard refresh to your forum.

If you are using firefox, open another browser eg chrome make sure the history is cleared and open the forum in there.

for me it was generally a cached forum issues

good luck

i am gathering that your an admin on the board *S*

this is an easy way to do it

log into admin, then go to boards, find the board you wish to use, click on modify, look for "Allowed Groups" then you will see a list, guest, member, the name of any member groups, make sure there is NO ticks in any box, remember to click the modify button down the bottom, then the only person who can access that board to write on it or see it is you.  If your setting a board up for it, its the same process.

if your wanting to do something that your members can read but cant reply, there is a section in the modify board to make it "read only"

hope that helps *S*

oh and im just a fellow member here *S*

Forum Url: http://elementsofdesign.freesmfhosting.com/index.php

Elements of Design, is a new site, that is like a living document, as it grows the board grows and the community grows.

Elements of Design was started as a place to have elements of avatar making in the one place, the site is still small, but welcomes new members.

if your looking for an avatar to wear in a chat site, then you are most welcome to browse my premade avatar section, avatars are added to that regularly.

To stop spammers, i have it that all sign up's have to be approved by admin, so dont panic if your not approved straight away, it would mean im actually sleeping *S*

if your interested in joining us, click here to go to Elements

many thanks

you mean your CSS code? which is the style sheet? or you want to put something into the header and footer?..

to put a style sheet code in:
this is just how i do it ....may not be correct and im just a member here

go to Admin on your tabs, log in
then on the left hand side you will see a list
go to "configuration"
then to "manage styles" click on "manage styles"
you will then see a row of tabs click on "create"
you will then see an empty box above it is written "style name" give your style a name
then scroll to the bottom of the page, you will see "create style" click on that
now go back to the top and click "modify style" then from the drop down box pick the style name you just did
it will tell you at the top "CSS modifying is near the bottom"  scroll to the bottom of the page
you will see a large box with a lot of code in it.....highlight that and delete it
then you copy the CSS code from the style sheet you wish to put up and paste it into the box
under that box is "modify style"  click that
then go back to the top and click on "main" then select the name of the style you just put it in
click "pick forum style" and you should have the new style up

SMF i hate to bother you, i have really tried to fix this problem, somehow i have made an error in my CSS.

i have like a table around private messages and it doesnt look right to me, i have noticed when i do reply it just seems to make it small, i hope this makes some sense *S*

attached is a screen shot of how a private message looks.

thanks for any suggestions and for running a great service.
