Title: [Guide]How to ''Delete'' Your Forum/How To Do ''Maintenance Mode''
Post by: K I L L A on January 07, 2010, 12:56:45 pm
I've seen a lot of questions about this and I searched for a guide like this and couldn't find anything, sorry if there is a guide.

Anyway.
For people who ask, there is no way to delete your forum.
But, you can set it to Maintenance Mode and it will be cleared away after it becomes too inactive and SMF removes it.(This is what I have been told, correct me if I'm wrong.I've done this before and It's been recommended by everyone that has been asked.)

In order to set it to Maintenance Mode,Go to Admin CP > Forum Settings, You must go to Forum Settings, not the maintenance section in the control panel.
If you do not know where that is, here is a picture.

Once you click on it, you should get something like this.

From there, Check ''Maintenance Mode?''
Type in whatever you want in the ''Subject For Display'' and ''message for display''

Once everything is done, it should look like this.

If you want to delete your forum, you must leave it alone and not login or go to it.It should be removed sooner or later.

Thanks

Yeah there is a Guide for the Maintenance Mode section listed in the Guides and Tutorials index (At the top of the Forum Settings Guide)
Admin CP Forum Settings Section Guide (http://www.smfsupport.com/support/guides_and_tutorials/guide_admin_forum_settings_section-t14256.0.html;msg61765#msg61765)

Also the directions for Maintenance Mode and the answer about deleting forums is in the General Support Faq  ;)

Q: How do I delete my forum?
A: You can't delete your forum, but you can put it into Maintenence Mode and just leave it.
(Admin/Forum Settings/checkmark in Maintenance Mode/Save)

Q: How do I put my forum into Maintenance Mode?
A: Admin/Forum Settings/checkmark in Maintenance Mode/Save

Thanks for this though!

I thought I would clear this one up.
Putting your forum in to Maintenance Mode will not prompt it to be removed.
Inactive forums are removed from time to time - but Maint Mode does not prompt it happening.
It merely stops anyone from logging in or seeing your forum.
We just suggest it when people want to stop using a forum - they can stick a "closed" note on it and know no one can use or see it anymore.

Yeah, I just put that because if they put in maintenance mode, no one will be able to go on it(except admins) and it will become inactive.
Most people don't tend to read the FAQ..so yeah. This should help some people.

I think most don't realize it and a lot of other helpful/informative links exist here as they are hidden inside Boards.   Tis why Ive put some in my signature.

I have asked SMF for Free to put them out in the open (re: this Suggestion Thread Links Suggestion (http://www.smfsupport.com/support/suggestions/links_suggestion-t18796.0.html) ) and hopefully sometime in the future he will do so.
