« on: April 13, 2008, 12:11:52 pm »
Hello! Some people have been asking around how do they get portal buttons? By that I mean like images with the words forum in the portal. So you can hide the tabs up top and just use portal buttons! Well its extremely simple and I will help you along the way. Remember: This isn't a video tutorial its something you read at your own pace! So take your time!

Target: Create Portal Buttons
Description: Buttons that can access your forum instead of tabs.
Difficulty: 2
Credits: Bunnypal, LaundryLady (for teaching me a while ago), and Omikron9861 (For also teaching me).
Requirements: Basic HTML understanding.

Preview:
HERE Look at the left and click the image [sorry for blurrieness bad image on my part]

Step 1: Go to your Admin Control Panel.

Step 2: On the left of the screen click Portal Settings.

Step 3: Create a new block.   HTML. say where you want it [left,right,center]

Step 4: After you save the box look under it in the list of blocks for Edit HTML. Click that NOW!

Step 5: Once the page has loaded you will need to add this in the white box.
Code: [Select]
<a href="URL"><img src="PIC NAME" width="SIZE" height="SIZE" alt="TEXT"></a>
*Things to edit: URL is the page [e.g: Fourms.] Pic Name is the Pic URL. Size is the size of the image if you want to change it [i suggest that you keep it the default size of the original image; by not filling in the SIZE parts.]

Step 6: Save it. And see if it works.

Step 7:
If it did thank me by replying.

Step 8: If it didn't reply and I will help.

PS: For a more into guide on creating the portal involving HTML blocks and such check this guide out.

 Well I did not feel like making a whole new topic sense this is close enough to my problem. I made a quick menu on my portal page. It includes buttons to different parts of my forums of course. It works, but about 3 seconds after the awesome buttons :) load they disappear and it gives me the message "This image or video has bean moved or deleted" which it has not sense the image showed and I checked the link. Please help me the code is below

I put your code on my test account and it seems to be holding fine. They have been there 30 minutes with out disappearing   Did you rearrange your pictures in Photobucket?  That will mess things up.  Also occasionally Photobucket has some kind of problem where pics will give that error and it comes back by itself.

Another thing that can cause things to not work right would be another code.  You use a lot of codes on your forum and one of those could be interfering.  One thing you can try.  Copy your headers and footers as they are to notepad and save.  Clear your codes.  Then start adding the codes back in one at a time until you find the one that stops the buttons from working.

Knew it must be this, but now how can I fix this so I can use both. It is the crown code. Before I used the one below I was having a problem with the crowns Ex. it was saying that it was deleted or moved. Well I got a different version *the current one below* and it worked. So why is it interfering and/or how can I fix it.
 , Thanks!

Code: [Select]
<script>
function name_across_board() {
//Created by Agent Moose (smcodes.smfforfree3.com)
$(function() {
var vfour = new Array()
vfour[vfour.length] = ["FinishTheFight","FinishTheFight","blue","<img src='http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z98/FinishTheFight_2007/Icons/adminzz7-1.gif'>"]
vfour[vfour.length] = ["Brandon","Brandon","red","<img src='http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z98/FinishTheFight_2007/Icons/adminzz7-1.gif'>"]
vfour[vfour.length] = ["dumb cow1","dumb cow1","cyan","<img src='http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z98/FinishTheFight_2007/Icons/adminzz7-1.gif'>"]
for(f=0;f<vfour.length;f++){
$("a").each(function() {
if(this.innerHTML.match(vfour[f][0])){this.innerHTML = this.innerHTML.replace(vfour[f][0],"<font color='"+vfour[f][2]+"'>"+vfour[f][3]+vfour[f][(vfour[f][1] != "" ? 1 : 0)]+"</font>");};
});};});}
name_across_board();
</script>

You would have to ask Agent Moose about the interaction of the codes.  Your button code is a simple table, not a big specialty code.  Let's see if Agent Moose has an answer as to why they interfere with each other.

FinishTheFight, Try useing this for your code.  Maybe it will not interact with the table code:
Code: [Select]
<script>
function name_across_board() {
//Created by Agent Moose (smcodes.smfforfree3.com)
$(function() {
var vfour = new Array()
vfour[vfour.length] = ["FinishTheFight","FinishTheFight","blue","<img src='http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z98/FinishTheFight_2007/Icons/adminzz7-1.gif'>"]
vfour[vfour.length] = ["Brandon","Brandon","red","<img src='http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z98/FinishTheFight_2007/Icons/adminzz7-1.gif'>"]
vfour[vfour.length] = ["dumb cow1","dumb cow1","cyan","<img src='http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z98/FinishTheFight_2007/Icons/adminzz7-1.gif'>"]
for(f=0;f<vfour.length;f++){
$("a[href*='u=']").each(function() {
if(this.innerHTML.match(vfour[f][0])){this.innerHTML = this.innerHTML.replace(vfour[f][0],"<font color='"+vfour[f][2]+"'>"+vfour[f][3]+vfour[f][(vfour[f][1] != "" ? 1 : 0)]+"</font>");};
});};});}
name_across_board();
</script>

Well, everything goes right until I click the Image, the url comes up as this "www.8thgrade.smfforfree4.com/www.8thgrade.smfforfree4.com"
The url comes as 2, thus, making the link not work.
