Use Custom Tabs to create a new tab (actually a link) in the tab bar.
You can use it for external URLs
You can create webpages using the webpage editor then use Custom Tabs to create a Tab(link) to get to the page.
You could use it to go to a specific section of your forum...     Forum Rules?    Whatever you like.  (Keeping in mind the TOS)   SMF for Free - Terms of Use

The
...   Whatever you like.
It is like something out of this world. The tab feature is great and can link to anything, but does the linked website also need to follow the SMF For Free TOS?

YES.
For instance:  posting links to warez,  adult related material is a no no so putting a link for them would be a TOS Violation
By posting a link to something that is against our TOS you would be making it available.

SMF for Free - Terms of Use -  NOTE all of the "making it available" notations in the TOS.

(have edited that post to reflect this)

That is the right place you need to be in the admin area. If you are able to see:
Quote
Features and Options
Server Settings
Current Theme
Themes and Layout
Ad Management
Then you are in the correct place, further down from that is where the next image is taken from, and is where you need to go.

Can you please help....?
I cannot follow any of these guides and tutorials...

I see on the bottom of the page "Powered by SMF 1.1.8 | SMF © 2006-2008, Simple Machines LLC   "

This is the same version I have.

But I do not seem to have all the possible options
I am in http://localhost/index.php?action=admin

but I do not have "webPage Editor" or "portal settings" to name 2 items....

You can't do that unless you disable the homepage portal.

Or, when you hand out your Forum URL... you can hand out this:

Code: [Select]
http://FORUMTITLE.smfforfreeX.com/index.php
Changing the FORUMTITLE to the prefix of your URL and the X to the server you are on.

instead of this URL
Code: [Select]
http://FORUMTITLE.smfforfreeX.com

If your using Legacy Portal do the following:

Admin CP > Configuration - Legacy Portal Settings > Enable Portal (uncheck)

If you are using EzPortal do the following:

Admin CP > EzPortal - Settings > Enable Portal Homepage (uncheck)
