Because it gives a better qulity to the image. every one who makes graphics/art on there computer most save it a a PNG file type.

i save them as jpg and didds if you copy and paste them u see if its .png .jpg or what ever

Depends on what you are using the images for.    If they are going to be used as banners for a forum,  graphics for a website layout -  its not always best to use .png    Why?    File size, page load time.     You can save them as high quality jpg's and have a LOT smaller file size thereby not stalling the page from loading so much.     Most of the stylesheet designers (like Crip, Bloc,  dzinerstudio, etc)  use jpg's       They do so because it makes for a faster loading page.
