Why are words suddenly censored?
« on: March 30, 2011, 07:56:28 pm »
I've never had anything censored on my forum, and although there isnt much in the way of bad language, when someone has posted it, it has shown up in the posts. Today however, loads of posts have suddenly become censored. I haven't changed any settings and no words are listed in 'Censored Words' in admin. I've changed the settings so that words do not censor and I have made sure that no words are listed, but still im getting 'censored' appearing everywhere. One of my members made a post about Dick Van Dykes Cockney accent and as I'm sure you can imagine it was unreadable. I don't want to have words censored but I don't seem to be able to work out how to remove it. Its come out of nowhere. Can someone help please?

New policy all swear words/mature content are censored unless the board has ad free credits. This is necessary step to be in compliance for advertising.

Was there prior warning? Is there any way it can be changed to **** instead of 'Censored'. At least then posts might make sense

No warning had to be done last time it happened had a major impact.

Ok, so can the word censored be changed to stars or something? As the example in my first post proves, even when members are not swearing, some posts are becoming unreadable because the filter sees them as swear words

I am not sure if stars would be best if people don't know what they are why they are appearing.

Well stars (****) are usually associated with censored words so I would imagine that it would make sense to most people on most forums. Having 'censored' turn up in the middle of a word might make it more difficult to read. I don't have an issue with words being censored. I'd rather they werent but if thats the way its got to be then I am fine with it. I just want to make reading and understanding posts as easy as possible for my members so if there is a way that it can be done to have the stars instead, I would much rather go with that

I guess, now that I understand the gist of the action, I would like to say that I would have done whatever necessary with a day's warning and my board wouldn't be illegible in threads. Mature content apparently extends far beyond anything I thought. Apparently, it takes days to get a Paypal account and there is no alternative way to pay as well. Will my board go back to normal once I wait for the code and whatever other hoops Paypal users jump through?

Switch to having your groups hosted by ProBoards.

They don't employ compulsory word censorship that even bans the word “n a z i” (which is a legitimate word).

This is horrible. I'm taking my business elsewhere now and I'll be sure to make sure everyone else does. SMFFORFREE? How the Hell are you giving us anything free when you take away big chunks of our forum like that? Do you realise how many posts and topics you have completely DESTROYED by putting these censors in? It's sickening. This is just another attempt to get more money our of your customers, despite getting more than enough already. Greed, that's what it is. Just like the Government.

I will not be using your services ever again and I'll tell everyone else not to as well.
Good day.

It is a necessary solution advertisers do not stand for any mature content if I ignore it the service will not surive last time that happened i ended up loosing a ton of income and not going to go that route again.

If you have ad free your board is not affected at all.
