Very mild bot attack?? Any tips to stop it?
« on: December 11, 2011, 02:55:14 am »
Forum Url: www.crazycowgaming.net
Over the last month or so I have had several accounts made by people i dont know and are not related to my game server or my community make 1 post and the post contains some very badly worded English usually some what relating to the topic they posted in. my problem is that they seem to be bots they never post again and they always have a URL link advertising some really weird site its in their posts and signatures.

While 1 or 2 a month is not a big deal from an admin point of view its messy and id rather my users not have to see it.

You can do admin approval on registration.
Otherwise we have some built in systems to help reduce but can't eliminate every single one since most of these attacks now are human based.

I have found the same thing lately but not really a big deal as they are not all that common.  I have found though that they all use gmail for their email addresses and contain the number 3 in their usernames.  I doubt if that is a coincidence.

What would be ideal for me is a question on signup that only some one that's been in the game server would know.

You can probably do that with custom fields.

Im not sure that you can do that with Custom Profile Fields with 1.*
Its an Anti Spam/ Verification Question Option in the 2.0 software.
