The only drawback I can see is the free one cuts off after 10 minutes and the pay one is $100.00.  Both of those would have me looking around for something else.  SMF said he is thinking about adding this to our forums, so I will keep on using my Premium Cbox for a lower fee until he comes up with something for us.

This one is much cheaper and works really well, any chance it could be added to smfforfree sites?

Typically, programs are custom made for SMF For Free. Suggesting a premise is better than suggesting an actual system.

Simply makes everything more compatible if it's custom made.

i like this one, and it can fit in very nicely with your forums if you make it the right length, cbox.ws

Our members are asking about adding a chat room for our forum too. Not one that shows up when you log into the forum, but one that you can choose to or not to log into when you go to the forum. I've seen them on other smf boards but not on the smf for free boards. I don't mind paying for one.

Im not sure if this would do as you want.  It is a post by Crasy in another thread:

Quote

Mibbet.com can provide a pretty good IRC chatroom that uses Ajax.

Just connect to the irc.windfyre.net network.
Make up a random room name
And woo.

If you have webspace somewhere you could use this one:
http://www.tufat.com/s_flash_chat_chatroom.htm
You would have to set it up on your own personal webspace, then you could make a custom tab on your forum that links to it.  When your members click the tab they would then go to the chat room and would have to login to it.

http://cbox.ws/ does have a chat/shout box that when paid for you can set it so that your members have to login to it to use it. Price wise its very reasonable.

Someone else may have other ideas for you.

Thank you. I tried the cbox and it isn't what we are looking, but similar. So for now I will wait until a chatroom is created for our forums :)

If you ARE looking for something similar to cbox there are others you could look into:

     www.yellbox.com
     www.myshoutbox.com
     www.shoutmix.com
     www.shoutbox.us
     www.tag-board.com
     www.tagboards.tk
     www.tagboardsite.com/
     www.xat.com/

Have no idea if or when a chatbox would be created for this service.

We use this particular flashchat in 2 of our sites. it has all the options and features we desire and need, but i need to warn you there are a few major glitches you have to work through. also, their support site has not been helpful to us on many occasions.

I would love to see SMF FOR FREE incorporate something very comparible to this flashchat program into our forums, and would offer any assistance i could provide in seeing that happen.

We could not use a chat box for what our needs were.

You can link a tab to take your members to chat, but be careful of how you set up. Make sure they must be registered with your chat. Otherwise you may get unwanted guests. We used the web page editor to lay our chat right inside our forum, it was incredible and beautiful! From there we set the chat tab to take our members to that page. It works beautifully.

good luck to you :)
