I thought I am paying for an ad free forum that is on someone's server that I helped contribute to upgrade so his servers would run faster.

When this post was remarked "Shell out the dough and get a real hosting service"
I thought for the past 3 years that is what I was paying for ...my forum to be ad free from SMF who is the host...
Is Simple Machine the host?I'm trying to unconfuse the past 3 years of what I thought I had built up.
I take it I'm wrong on understanding

Kathy exactly and his post only managed to confuse you.   It was unnecessary, showed lack of respect for this service,  and was born out of frustration I am sure.   (I rewrote that 3 times)
Your forum IS hosted by this service, is ad free, and you do have other things that you are able to do as you have the Pro Plan (which we no longer offer btw to anyone else looking in)     Yes SMF for FREE  IS your host, and this IS a hosting service.     What he mentioned is totally different.
