OMG!  this is making me nervous.  Will it cause disturbance in my forum?  Does 'downtime' mean it'll be offline for a certain duration? 

Also please inform if that bit about updating IP address for custom domain users would apply to me.

Anything else that I should know?

Your forum will be "down" for a certain duration.The best thing to do is to let all of your users know though an announcement on the forum.

If you don't know what a custom domain is, then it doesn't apply to you. Guaranteed.

It may take 24-48 hours for your DNS to update meaning that after the forum is up and online again there MAY be a small amount of time where you can't access the forum. Though, 24-48 hours is on the highest end of the scale that the downtime will last.

since i just have a simple URL as the one you see me posting? Will my house be effected by this Upgrade or is just a Common site hosted not going to be effected?

And if so what changes will we have to make to accomodate the upgrade?

I just dont feel like being confused when i explain to the people at the forum whats the deal is, without fully understanding, hope thats cool?

All forums on the server your forum is on are going to be moved to a new server.

For those having a Custom Domain Name they do need to update the nameservers to the new IP number.

Your forum will be moved on the date noted in the Service Downtime Notice on your forum (and in the Announcement here in the Announcement Board)

After the move expect a 24 to 48 hour wait  (and could possibly be much shorter) for the dns on your computer to update.

I would let your members know your forum is going to be moved , when, and to expect it not to be accessible during this period.

There is nothing you need to do to be prepared for this.

Lets be simple:
It will be down on may 10th for smfforfree2, MySMF.com
FreeSMFhosting.com, and may 9th for smfforfree, and may 11th for 3rd and fourth. Ignore the 'change the ip' part IF you just use XXXXX.smfforfree-.com

On May 11, 2008 SMFForFree4.com that night will be upgrading to new hardware.

It means that Sunday nite your forum is going to be moved to a new server.
You will not be able to get to your forum when that happens and for approximately 24-48 hours afterwards, maybe sooner.

If you bought a domain name you will need to make the changes it mentions after the move.  If you did not dont worry about that part of the message.
