Need help with the ranks images!

Well while I was snooping around the Ranks pictures for example(http://images.smfboards.com/ranks/borderchrome/siteowner.gif)

I noticed different of images I can use. I used the example shown above and made it red. I saved file as .jpg and .gif but when I try inserting it as a picture for a certain rank, it becomes a small box with nothing.

I used photobucket and imagshack for image hosting.


May anyone please help me?  Thanks in advanced! :)
