Music - Playlist [Solved]
« on: August 16, 2008, 02:01:57 am »
Forum Url: http://trials.smfforfree2.com/
I made a trial forum for trying out the playlist.  It came quite good.  The only problem seems to be that there's no way of turning off the music permanently, in case some members prefer not to listen to it.  By clicking the small button on the extreme left, the music does stop.  But starts again as soon as you go to a different board or page of the forum.  Is there any way of resolving this?

No, Unless you add it to a board, so they only hear this at the index. This isn't an SMF problem, its the PlayList.

Yes of course, it's the problem with playlist.  Thanks for your suggestion Jessie.

we put a playlist in our forum by using the webpage editor. it worked out quite well, and has become a favorite.

I've added it to a board as Jessie suggested.  Seems to be going quite okay.  I just wanted to know if playlist has any significant effects on the speed of browsing the forum.

What's "webpage editor?"

It shouldn't effect speed for anyone unless on a mobile browser or weak connection.
Webpage Editor is Under Admin CP.

Anything you add to a page will slow down the forum...but the playlists aren't toooo bad. Though there are still considered a fairly 'heavy' application. Adding too many of these heavy applications on any page(read that as more than one) is really, really not reccomended.

Remember, the average user will wait 7 seconds for a page to load before giving up.

Will adding things with the webpage editor also slow things down?

Not really..because they're on their own page. So they don't load on every single page. They'll make that one page a bit slower...but since it will be alone on that page.
Putting your playlist and heavy apps in the webpage editor will really help. That way things don't have to load up on every page.

Aha, a little confusion.

Well, anymore questions?
Webpage speed is a very important topic and thing to keep in mind while running a forum. Let's keep it all clear in our heads. Ask away if you want to know

Thanks very much for all this information, Crasy and Jessie.

At the moment I have the chatbox and playlist on the main index.  I put the playlist early this evening.  Uptil now I haven't noticed any significant slowdown.  But I sensed playlist must be a heavy application.
I agree with Crasy that it would be better to put it on webpage editor.  But I'll have to study this feature.  Right now I know nothing about it.  Any links to guidelines / tutorials on how to set up webpage editor?
