Ok.. so it's me again with the possibilities & impossibilities  ;D

I was wondering if there is anyway possible to have a drop-down box for members to select when they sign up... for:

What typre of membership they would like
  • 1. Film Makers
  • 2. Schools
  • 3. Tourism
  • 4. etc
  • 5. etc

From there on.. they will only be able to see forums and post that pertain to that group.. and news for all groups in general.
I know I can assign them to permission groups after registration.. but looking for an alternative upon registraion  ;)

Mainly so that forum doesn't get too cluttered & don't have to create too many Sites.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

Is there a chance for scripting by SMF? (even in the future)?

Or do we seek coders to try challenge the task.
One way or another ... I believe it will be a huge asset to sites & SMF  ;)

It's already a part of smf 2.0   (Requestable Membergroups)  It gives the ability when adding a Membergroup to select if you want the Group to be one that a Member can select to become a Member of.   You can also give them the ability to leave and join a Membergroup.    SMF for Free's other forum hosting site,  Create a Forum, uses smf 2.0.  http://createaforum.com/    (Any questions related to Create a Forum need to be addressed via CAF's Support forum)

Thats great news...  ;)

1. Is it possible to upgrade to SMF 2.0 with our existing content?
2. What will it cost.. or do we need our own servers?
3. Do you also give the support for version 2.0?

Thanks.. I do have a CreataForum site... tested it on another registration.. but no luck.
I have posted it there to querry the problem  :(

I doubt I would switch though.. after all the work that went into the site
I'd rather create a query after they register... then move them into the right group ... should they wish  ;)
