Moving my forum to .com

Hey,

Ive made a forum and now ive started to get members im thinking about making it .com instead of .smfforfree2.com.

I know i have to buy a domain and a hosting package but then what do i do?

Can any1 help me out and post a guide or somthing?

I believe you would need to get a separate database for your forum.  I've seen that mentioned in other posts.  $20 plus $1 per 100 posts.  Your new host may be willing to move your site but I think you'll need your data extracted from the general database.

If you want to move your site entirely off SMF For Free you would need a database backup, which terrain has already explained how to do.

If you want a .com domain while staying on SMF For Free you may need to wait, if it's even possible at all. The Admin here has been looking into seeing if that can be made possible in the future, for a price.
Keep in mind that by future I could mean anywhere from next week to next year, no exact timeline.
