A few members can't log in...
« on: August 19, 2007, 10:34:23 am »
I have a couple of members who have not been able to access The Coffee Shop for the past two days, but they can go into Server 2 sites (The Hideaway, Johnz Insane Plan, etc) without any problem.

I know that some Server 1 maintenance has been going on; would this possibly be the cause?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Hi Coffee...   have they not been able to access it at all for two days??    My forum is on server 1, and I know of several others.  Ive checked around since seeing the posts about this and they are all accessible.  Mines not been down at all actually.    edit:   I checked both upgraded and non upgraded forums.  I have a test site on server 1 that is not upgraded - no problems with it.

coffee I just logged into your site.   What are they telling you  "exactly" is happening when they try to login?

Hey Sybil...I hope all is well in the tent!  :)

It's just a couple of members who have not been able to access at all in the past two days...I personally haven't had any access problems, and I've used several different computers, browsers, and internet providers. I've also accessed OK on broadband, DSL, and dialup. The members having problems have Comcast internet service, but so do many others there as well. (Rymmyisaac is the member who has communicated the most with me about it.)

I'm usually pretty good at troubleshooting things like this, but this one has me stumped.

Rymmyisaac said that "the red, white, and blue banner comes up (presumably the Coffee Shop summer banner), but (she) isn't able to scroll down at all". She also said that she was not able to access the TV Fanatics board on Server 1, but she could access The Hideaway and Johnz Insane Board on Server 2.

There's a thread on the board called "Technical difficulties??" that has some more info as well.

Thanks for looking into it...I'm not completely convinced that it's an SMF problem.

hmmm   what browser is he/she using?
I tried it with IE and FIrefox.. I have noscript installed in Fox and once allowing the script i got in fine.
I took a look at your header.. it may be that the script is wacking her browser out.   Could be they need to do some browser cleanup.. empty cache, etc etc.   Im not seeming to find any problems at your site..

This is unrelated but thought Ild mention it :)
You  might want to split up Much Ado about Anything.   Its HUGE and SMF has mentioned in the past that it can cause some slowdowns.

Thanks for looking...I suggested that they clean out their cookies and start fresh. Later today, I'll see if things have improved for them at all.

Thank you also for the suggestion on "Much Ado"... I'll do that! ;)

(As long as I'm here, I'll throw in a gratuitous plug for your site,The Tent Dwellers, a great place to visit!)

lol thanks...     btw the rock station in your radio dropdown is my local radio station here in town  ;)
Anyhoo... have them clear cache as well.    Do you know if they do maintenance on thier systems often?
You "could" try saving your header info,  clear it out.. have them try to login.   If they CAN you'll know its something in the header causing the problem.

Suggest they give another browser a try to see if they can get in okay with it.

Hi Sibyl...how are you doing, dear one?    ;)

I just started having trouble with the site today. I cannot get in through Coffeenole.com at all...that one freezes up right away. I can go through the Original CS site...but again, once I get to smfforfree, it freezes, too.  :tickedoff:

I ran a check on my pc and did some clean up, also clearning the cache and cookies. But this is a strange for it to only be happening to a few of us...and not at the same time! Also, I don't have comcast.com, so ???   Hopefully, splitting the "Much Ado" thread will help and things will clear up soon.  :(

Anyway, thanks again for everything Sibyl and Coffeenole.  :-*

Okay, thanks so much Sibyl, but I wanted to say it's not just smfforfree because the Original CS is on Proboards and it is freezing up, too. However, I can log on and post at CSII, which is also Proboards...so it gets even more confusing, to me anyway!!

I wanted to report that thanks to Simply Sibyl and DejaVue, the difficulties at The Coffee Shop were repaired.

It seems that there was a compatibility problem between the headers and the Swicki search engine, locking up some browsers when both were in place.

This obviously was not an SMF For Free problem, but Sibyl stayed with until the problem was solved. This speaks VOLUMES, not only in Sibyl's character, but also in SMF For Free as a host.

Thank you for everything!
