member permissions - board permissions not working
« on: July 13, 2008, 12:36:51 pm »
Forum Url: http://littlebearcreek.smfforfree4.com
Hello. I have 2 membergroups who specifically don't want to see portions of our board and one of them said she could see everything after server 4 had been moved. Today I created another membergroup and unchecked one of our boards so they couldn't see it and they can see it.

Any advice, can you please fix this?

If they haven't done so, they might want to try clearing their cache and see if that solves the problem.

Thank you for the suggestion, I also assigned one of my own generic nicknames to the member group, cleaned out my cache as well and it still shows the board.

Kinda sounds like a Permissions by Board thing maybe.

Have you  enabled and are using "Permissions by Board"   ?
Admin > Boards on the Settings page:   Enable advanced by-board permissions

If so click on Permissions by Board in the Admin > Permissions section.
Find the board , click on the name of it.  You will then be at the Membergroup Permissions page for THAT Board.   From there you will have to modify each Membergroup and check the permissions for the board in question.   Do that for any board that is set that way.

yes, did all of that. It worked just fine until server 4 was moved then the person who had boards blocked for her said they all showed up. I didn't know it was still happening. Then recently we added a new board and there is another person who wants it blocked. I gave them a special member group of "creek camper" and made sure on both the board and the membergroup and with permissions that they aren't allowed to see it. :( They still can't see the family only board or the moderator/admin board so I don't know why this new board isn't working.

I tried clicking on local instead of global too and that made no difference :( all out of options here. I don't know why it worked for 2 months then stopped.

kinda back and forth here.. making dinner.. sorry heh

Janine that does confuse me as I don't believe we have had anyone else report a problem with their permissions since the move.

Im assuming the member in question is in a non post count based group.
Have you gone to their profile > account related settings and made SURE they are not in a Primary Group AND a different Additional Membergroup?

yes I checked all of those things. With the other person, nothing was changed and her permissions worked up until the move then stopped.  The 2 members, burt and burtie were just moved to a newly made member group today and it isn't working, I've had other moderators and one other admin check it for me too. :(

so how do I remove the creek expert post based group from him?

In Admin > Membergroups
Modify the creek camper group
It should be in the REGULAR groups - not in the post count groups
This group is based off posts:     should NOT be checkmarked
Under Visible Boards click on the Show Boards link and check to see which boards that group can see.

Also its gonna show a post count based group in posts/etc if you dont have it set not to:
Admin > Current Theme > last option on that page:   Hide Post group titles for grouped members

Thank you, did all that and the creek camper group can still see the board they aren't supposed to. I added one of my side accounts to that group too to check it. I cleaned out my cache and tried again and still seeing that board. I don't know what else to check.
