but the news was like in a board, instead of at the top news:

how do i do this?

Try following this guide and see if it helps you.

http://www.smfsupport.com/support/guides_and_tutorials/guide_setting_up_your_news_section-t4137.0.html;new

Scroll down about half way and you will see the section on the News Fader. Some key things to do are make sure your fader is set to LESS than 5000 and make sure yo have more than one news item listed (each one in its own news box).
