Don't be. I had just posted it 10 seconds back in SkyKid10's thread.

Content.
Content.
Content.
Most important thing is content.

You put GOOD quality content on your board and you can attract people.
Doing what everyone else has already done will not attract people...they'll just go the big boards.

Offer a service.
If your forum is about a topic, keep people up to date on it.

Have some fun content...just because you're an administrator doesn't mean you have to act like one. Have fun with your members...act as a friend...not some kind of god.

I see a lot of people acting like the positions of power are some biggg huge special thing. Offering stuff like, "I'll make you moderator" is nothing...since they could just make their own board and be administrator!
Have the power...but use it to amuse your members...and rid of the bad members and posts. Nothing more.

The best free forum communities I've seen(and still see because they're still alive a full year later) are tightknit friendly communities. Keep that in mind too ;)

When creating a successful board you need a few things. Like Crasy said, Content. But, you need to look over some aspects.

-What age group are you trying to attract?
-Do you have an interesting subject?
-Are you advertising properly?
-Is the QUALITY of your content good?
-Why are your members active?
-What will you do to keep members with you?
-Will you have a good staff?

Keep these in mind when you try to create a forum and you will be surprised how far you go!
