I don't see an option to delete a membergroup once it's created.

Thanks!

Sibyl, why the heck didn't see that <delete> button before!

I swear I looked everywhere!

Hmm...

The delete button is there for some not for others.

See screenshot: http://i44.tinypic.com/15gbktv.jpg

If it's because the group is occupied...I gotta move all 50 members in order to delete it? Post counts requirements cannot be changed without making a whole new group, which is what I am looking to do here.

The "Newbie"   Group can not be deleted.     Members must be put into a group upon joining the forum so that group has to be there.  You can change the post count requirements - just change the numbers?    If you need to make a new Membergroup do so to get the groups/numbers as you want them.  They'll automatically go into the new group(s) according to their post counts.

I see the problem, your post helped...

The newbie group cannot have it's post count requirements modified or deleted (as you said); but the others can. I should have looked at the other groups before I posted the question here...

I want the first group members placed into to be called "lurkers" until they make one post, then they become newbies. This allows me to restrict members who make accounts but never post. A pm to that member will advise them of this fact and discourage lurking and encourage a "hello" post.

So I renamed Newbies to Lurkers and created a newbie group that the member is placed into after they make the initial post.

Thanks!

Now I gotta figure out how to make new members become assigned to the Lurker's group rather than "no primary membergroup".

I wonder if you could help me out there and save me some time figuring it out?

Thanks Sibyl you're the best!

 ;)

There is no option to change post count requirements in existing membergroups, which is why I tried to delete the membergroup and then create a new one with a different post count requirement.

I may not be understanding totally but since you renamed "Newbies" to "Lurkers" any new members will automatically be in the "Lurkers"  Membergroup.

They will advance up to the new "Newbies"  Group that you created once they make the inital post.    The  "Primary Membergroups" link in thier Profile>Account Related Settings>Primary Membergroup lists the Regular groups and is a way for you to hand pick members you want in those specific groups.    All members are in post count groups unless YOU move them to one of the Regular Groups.

There are two types of membergroups.

A post count based membergroup: Where the member's post count will determine the membergroup the member is put in.

A regular membergroup: Where the administrator hand picks the members that are part of the group.

Ok, you cleared it all up Sibyl.

I now understand that members are not assigned a primary membergroup upon registration, those are assigned manually if desired by the admins...The Newbie post count based membergroup is assigned automatically to new registrants, and the post count requirements of this group cannot be changed from zero nor can it be deleted, however it can be renamed to something else.

Now all I gotta do is figure out why my test account "headless_horseman" which is designated as a lurker with zero posts can see the chat board which is unchecked for lurkers. There is no primary membergroup assigned to this member which I understand overrides board permissions and viewable boards. I must be missing something simple but if you want to do me yet another favor and figure out why a board is visible to this member that shouldn't be I will be eternally grateful to you.

Looking at your forum.
Which board is it?

You did Modify the Board and uncheck Guests correct?

Member's Only Chat Box - This board is only viewable to registered members

Guests is unchecked.

Is it because "regular members" is checked? Even though my test account isn't a "regular member"?

Actually I messed up..   I should have asked if you unchecked "Lurkers"
If you DID:

Might be a Permissions by Board thing.

Go to Admin > Permissions > Permissions by Board
Find the Chat Board.
If it is set to (Local) click on the Board name.
You will be at the Membergroup Permissions for THAT Board.
Click Modify across from Guests
Look to see what you have permissions set for them for that Board.

Sibyl I don't get anything like what you said...nothing about "Local"

Ok Sibyl, we're all good on my board now with membergroups and permissions and such. Thanks for checking in over in the chatbox to help me out, sorry I missed you.
