Title: Help with logging in after username change
Post by: tendril on October 27, 2008, 01:30:09 pm
Forum Url: http://phoenixgeneral.smfforfree4.com
One of the administrators changed their username on their profile and now cannot log back in. I think it's because her email address looks incomplete to me on her profile (it is missing @hotmail.com at the end). So any notification of a new password will be floating around the ether!

I tried completing the email address on her profile but got the message "this email address is in use by another member".

Any ideas how to sort this out?

This could because off they are trying to login with the name they just made, your ment to login with the true username that they made first.

Tell them to login with the username they registerd with. and tell them not to login with the name they just made...

Well, that made sense!  ;D  and are you sure their email ends with @hotmail.com?

Yes the e mail address does end in hotmail.com  Now signed in under a new name but she is the original administrator of our forum and would like to revert to her other personna

She has to signin with her user name.. not her new display name.
So long as she logs in with the correct username and password she will be able to get in.
The email address isnt the problem.. it would be ONLY if she tried to do a remember password as it wouldnt be able to send the email to her if the address is not correct.

Since you said you can edit her account you can put the correct email address in there  (but she still has to use the correct login and password to get in)

Do a member search -  search by email address.
See which member has that same email address -  that will help you figure that one out
