If you have tried to add it via the "add smiley" tab and it still shows up that way, that means there is an error in that folder with that smiley - it usually means its no longer there or the name has changed, and there is nothing we can do to fix it. SMF will have to take care of it. Just make it hidden so noone sees the red x when they are posting.

Your screenshot shows me that you did not do one step in the instructions ;)

Go to Current Themes and change Select default smiley set for this theme to smf

The SMF smiley set is broken. When I go to add that set, I get the following error:

If I try to make that directory my Default Smiley set, NONE of my smileys work.

as Kimmie said,  that message comes up when you do it, but they still work fine so ignore that message..

I have added this to the Guide:
Quote
If you get this message ignore it, the smileys are already in the directory:
Unable to import smiley set.  Either the directory is invalid or cannot be accessed.

Did you read my previous message?

one other thing to make sure of...   are you POSITIVE there are no spaces after (or before)  the smf url you put in base url.   Even one space there will foul it up and it wont work.

 :o

Okay, this is weird. I went to re-add the smiley set and this time it went off without a hitch. The SMF smiley set is loaded, and it's set to default and everything appears to be working and in order.

Until I go back to the forums and go to post. The "Classic" smileys are still showing up. Does it take some time for that change to take effect?

good.. glad you got it to work.

Even though you set it to default in the smiley settings you HAVE to set it in Current Theme as well so that THAT smiley set is the DEFAULT smiley set for THAT theme.    :)

Which was the mistake I made, and how I fixed it. Can you add photobucket smileys to your account on a server 3 board?

Oh, and fyi, I opened up one of our rooms for guests.

You can replace them on any of the servers.  You'll be changing the base url again to your photobucket url.   Follow this guide completely:

Okay, one more really dumb question and I'll quit flooding the forum.  ::)

I see you can *replace* the smileys, but can you add more to a server 3 board?

No, you can only replace the ones you have - cannot add more

There are only 22 because thats all the smileys you are allloted on your forum. If those 22 smileys are showing up as Red X's, recheck the names of the ones you uploaded to your image hosting account. They have to have the EXACT same names as the ones that you see on the list when you are on the "Edit Smileys" tab on your forum. (including the file type which is ".GIF"). If those names are correct, then try deleting that new smiley set you created and going back through the guide step by step. Dont bypass any of the steps or the smileys will not work.
