Creating a private forum
« on: April 12, 2007, 04:50:14 pm »
Is there a way to create a completely private forum such that unregistered guess can basically seen nothing - especially posts and subjects and even board titles, etc.?

Thanks.

Not according to the TOS

9. One guest forum should be at least visible.

You do have the capability to but I dunno if SMF For Free would allow it.

All you have to do is create a guest board, have it be the only one showing, and set your registration to "Approve", meaning you have to approve every member that joins. Per SMF TOS you have to have atleast one board showing.

also - maybe I could creat a guest forum and just not use it at all - then create the other fourms which cannot be accessed by guests?  would that do it?

Thanks

Thats up to SMF

edit.. actually that would be creating two forums. Each one has to have a board showing. Creating one for just guests would be kind of useless.

I may me using the wrong words - sort of new to this stuff.  what is the exact definition of:

1. "Forum"
2. "Board"
3. "Category"

in the context of SMF forums?

Thanks.

Thanks.  So I will create a guest board with nothing in it.  Then other boards private only - members only can view these.  then I have my private forum!!  I think!?

thanks!

You have to go into the "guest" member group and were it says "visible boards" you have to make it to were only one is checked since you have to have atleast 1 guest forum.  I suggest  making a forum labled Guest and putting info about your forum.
