Chainging IP after server move
« on: May 17, 2009, 08:46:44 am »
I have a custom.com name for my forum

www.friendshipsinreborning.com

I went to go daddy and changed the IP to the new one for my forum

http://friendshipsinreborning.smfforfree3.com/

They say it can take 24-48 hours for it change over.

I can open the page

http://friendshipsinreborning.smfforfree3.com/

but can not sign into my forum and I think this is because of the custom name.

So am I just supposed to wait the 24-48 hour with my forum down??? I didn't even know the servers were being changed to inform my membrs until it had already went down. My memers have no clue whats going o and why the forumis down or how long it will last.

Any help is appreciated.

You should be able to log into the smfforfree3 URL while you wait for your DNS settings take effect.

I can log into other server 3 forums. So you should be able to log into yours.

If you wish to try to get on sooner (after the move is completed)  you can try to flush the dns manually
There is no guarantee this will work.      Note:   Will not work on Win98, Win98SE

Start > Run >  type in cmd.exe
Click OK
Type in:    ipconfig /flushdns
Hit Enter:
Wait for the response
Type EXIT to exit the command prompt
