Announce Topic gone?

Hello,

On my last forum (smfforfree.com) I had the option to announce topics, but on smfforfree3 i do not see this anywhere anymore. Has it been removed or am i not looking hard enough  :-\

Yeah been removed to the paid newsletter upgrade. Had a couple people abusing the announce topic feature so had to disable it.

SMF just a note that I can still announce topics by modifying a post, clicking Additional Options then checking Announce Topic.

I know what its for and up until now it was included, why make people pay for something they had. I hope more feature don't start incurring costs, that takes away from the For Free aspect of your service. You can get a shared hosting account for less than the addons this For Free service costs. I'm not really understanding.

Yes but if you don't use it is not worth and it is a one time fee.

I have developed most of the major mods, systems for SMF so the benefit here you get most of them free instead of having to buy each product.

Most of the mods are free also. I've had a private host for years with a heavily modded SMF forum with custom coding I've done myself and I never had to pay SMF or the mod producers for anything, just my host. I have donated to SMF for their work, but to pay to use something that is free is what I'm not understanding. Pay for ad free credits, a smilie upgrade, ect... now to make announcements, really, what is next?

That's it for now and wouldn't have been done if it wasn't for abuse. Same thing happened with custom smiles when people adding tons and slows down the system.

The benefit here is we manage it all, built in features that are not found in SMF.

The whole point about have a forum is to be able to communicate with it's members. When you do that, you get more of them signing in and seeing all your ads which obviously pays you money to advertise. (I presume) If I can't announce topics to our members, what is the point of having it?

This is Free...

I too used the announce feature sometimes but you have to look at it from SMF For Frees perspective, people were abusing THAT feature and so THAT feature has now become premium.

I would much rather SMF remove something that they may have had comlpaints about, than remove the FREE altogether.
