Is there a way in which a member can allow other members of the forum to view the custom fields in their profile?

In other words, one of the custom profile fields I have is "Name". it'd be nice if a member could set a bit that allows other forum members to view that field, or maybe to have a general setting to allow the viewing of all the custom fields.

Is there a way to do this?

In that list of options, there's a hot-link that says "Re-create field", I was afraid to try it, what does that do?

In order to be sure, Jessie, test your suppositions on your test forum before giving out the info.  That way if it messes up, you won't be responsible for ruining their whole day.
