A page above the home page?
« on: January 14, 2011, 11:56:04 am »
Forum Url: www.freespirittrikers.smfforfree3.com
Let me try to explain. Right, you know we have a "HOME" page, which is the 1st page of the forum book if you like.
Well is there anyway of adding a page in front of that which the website will open on when you type your URL?

What I want is a blank page with just my club logo on it, and an enter button that I can link to the home page.
That way then when you type www.freespirittrikers.smfforfree.com it will take you to the logo page, and then clicking the enter button links you to the home page.............simples. 8)

Nope, not a way for you to do that exactly as you want it.
http://www.freespirittrikers.smfforfree3.com/ has to go directly to your forum and cannot be set to open to a page like that.

Only thing you could do would be if you have some webspace somewhere - create a page with your logo on it and an enter button linked to your SMF for Free forum.   You'ld then have to give out the url for THAT page when you advertise anywhere.

People will bypass it anyways and bookmark your forum ya know  ;)   Keep it simple - no one likes having to go thru hoops.

Yep, you are so right I never thought of that. Most of my members didn't even know that I had spent 2-3 days re modelling the home page and getting all the ezportals to line up. Like you say they will just bypass the home page and have the forum listed as their favourite. However, it would be good for guests to see.

Think I'll keep it simple.

Thank you for your help tonight. You may go home early tonight as I won't be needing your assistance again.
Good night. :smitten:

Use EzBlocks as your homepage - and delete all of your blocks, and add on in the center - make the one in the center contain the logo, and add a link to your forums, that'll be a solution too.

Hakam J.,

Hi mate. Sounds alright, but I don't want any of the buttons and info that are under the banner to be visible. I just want a plain page with just a logo and enter button.
If you can think of a way to get rid of the info section that contains the register, log in, home, gallery etc buttons, I'd like to see that.

Hakim - by doing that he would lose all of the blocks that he wants to keep, and also still would not have what he is looking to accomplish.

Ady - Although there are some codes in the Code board for removing things like the tabs, some things in the info cente, and other things..  it wouldnt work as you want.    The reason is that those codes remove the those things no matter where you are on the forum.   It wouldnt be a "blank page with just a logo and an enter button" on it as you said you wanted.   The rest of the forum, the boards, topics, ezportal , etc etc would all be there.

This is why I said there really is only one way you can achieve exactly what you are looking for in my reply -  create a webpage on some webspace somehere;  put your logo image and an enter button linked to your site on it, and then give that url out as your url.

Oh alright - you could create a webpage, and add a HTML EzBlock anywhere in the homepage to forward your web browser to your page that has the logo.

That'll be a little annoying for some people as it may sound annoying getting auto-forwarded to a page, then hitting the logo to enter the site.  One is enough - this one works, but I do not recommend it.
