A board for sponsors, who can only write to that board
« on: April 04, 2007, 05:29:52 am »
I have in mind a sponsors board.

There are really two questions:

1.  Can I restrict write permissions for the board to the sponsors group - while allowing all groups, including guests, to read the board - and, if so, how?

2.  Can I, at the same time, prevent sponsors from writing to other boards while still being able to read most of the other boards and, again, if so, how?

I thought I might be able to do it by basing the group on Global Moderator but it seems not.  I haven't been able to find any answer so far.  Perhaps there's no way here because it's a free host but I'm looking ahead.

Yes, you just need to set the permissions for that board

The only permissions relate to "access" which is to see and read the board.  "Permissions By Board" states
Quote
Here you can set whether a board uses the global permissions or has a specific permission regime. Using local permissions means that for that board, you can set every permission for every membergroup.
But that is untrue.  The only options are:  Normal | No polls | Reply only | Read only .  If I click on a Board name, nothing happens.

I'm looking at the url "... .smfforfree2.com/index.php?action=permissions;sa=board" which I get with Members >Permissions : "Permissions By Board".  Nowhere on the screen can I select "local permissions".  ???

Set up your board ..
Then goto your admin controls...
Then click on boards.....
Then click on the permissions on your sponsors board ...
Then set the permissions for each member group ....

Nah, Sassy knows her stuff.

Go to the AdminCP->Permissions->Settings->Check "Enable advanced by-board permissions" then Save

Then go to AdminCP->Boards->Click Permissions->Click Okay when it asks if you want to switch the permissions to local. From there you should be able to change A LOT more regarding per board permissions.

Edit: Pretty much what Petrol said, simultaneous post. Just remember to switch the permissions to "advanced by-board perrmissions"

Thank you.  That was the step I missed and, in fact, did not see.

It turns out that that the topic is mentioned in the manual: How do I lock boards without using DENY? EDIT: that page also omits reference to the step mentioned above.

Thank you all for the replies.

Eh, we don't have any access to those documents there...or any of that site for that matter.

No problem though

Why no access?  I had no problem.  I've seen a link somewhere here to a manual.  I thought it was the same one.

He said it omits that step, I thought he was kinda implying that they should be fixed.

I know about that, it's pretty convenient ;D

Sorry to cause a misunderstanding.  I wasn't suggesting it should be fixed (although, perhaps it should).  I just wanted to explain that consulting it did not get me any further.

Having me around wouldn't help that.
