(Atten SMF) Database Problem with Ultimate UPgrade
« on: October 16, 2009, 07:38:43 am »
Hello one and all, I'm new and I'm having some troubles. You see I wanted to promote my site to the fullest, to give it a shot and see what all cool features you get and put them to the test, even though it's pretty expensive on my part. So I made my site premium, not one second later, BAM all my pages basically have been deleted, hell is my site even considered a forum anymore? Want to see? Check it out.. http://slh.freesmfhosting.com/index.php

What the hell happened to my forums? Not that I put a lot of work into it... but what am I suppose to accomplish with this? Can someone shed some light on this situation? Do I need to literally manually script this thing myself? If so, where and how? And if no one can answer these questions to my liking, then can someone at least tell me how I get off this membership? I believe it told me, but I was in a rush and needed to go Grocery shopping so I just got done with it and can't remember what it said, thanks all who help!  :tickedoff:

When you say you have gone premium, you mean you have now paid for a domain?

If so its not something that is dealt with on these forums, sure someone will be along soon to say.

Yes, I purchased I believe the, 'ultimate upgrade' the one that costs 39$ approx. a month. Can someone please tell me where I can get help for this?... I want to know exactly what I need to do to get the help I need, and to get my website working again.

Something evidently went wrong with the upgrade.  SMF for Free will correct it for you.   He does have a day job so this may take abit of time for him to get to it.   Sorry for the inconvenience.   I'll shoot him a note about this for you.

I can't even begin to tell the story of how long I've been searching for help tonight, hours upon hours... constant posting, most of the posts were on other sites, they have almost the same name, so I thought it was you and.. well, yeah. They told me it was you for sure. http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=342456.0 That's the topic I posted on the other site. Just in case anyone's wondering why I'm so annoyed. Lol

Well thank you very much, it may be inconvenient, but at least I know it's going to be fixed, thank you very much.

You would need to purchase a domain name (thru someplace like Godaddy)
Create two nameservers that point  to the ip address listed on the domain manager page in your Admin Panel.
Then update your domain to point to those two newly created nameservers
Directions for setting things up via Godaddy:   Godaddy Nameserver Setup Help

That's completely fine, I actually want to have a different url though. Godaddy seems like a long and complicated process just to change my domain's url. In order for me to make an account I must call them apparently, and I haven't the slightest clue how it works.. All I wanted was from http://slh.freesmfhosting.com/index.php to http://yourda.freesmfhosting.com/index.php.... Could you tell me how to cancel the membership? I'm not really interested anymore.  :-\

We do not change forum urls, for technical reasons that can not be done.

You would have to cancel the upgrade you purchased for the slh forum then create a new forum (the yourda one you want)    Then purchase the upgrade for the yourda forum  (if you want the upgrade for that one)   To cancel the upgrade contact SMF for Free;  give him the email address you used for the Paypal account to purchase the upgrade.     Possibly he will see this and have another idea but that url can not be changed.

As to the Godaddy domain name issue.  You would not need to call them.  You would purchase a domain name from them via their website, then setup the two nameservers and point them to your forum.   The guide I posted to you lays out how its done -  its really not difficult to do.

It says I need to log in, and in order to do that I need a account, and when I try to make a account they specifically require me to give them a, 'calling id' or something along those lines, which says something or another about the one I give their support when I call them for whatever. Sorry for being so vague, but I don't remember what it EXACTLY said, just try to make a account, you'll see.

You do not need to call them to create an Account nor to set this up.
The "Call-in PIN"  on the Create an Account page is for you to create a pin number so that if you ever DO have to call them for any reason they can verify who you are and that the account is yours.

Fill out all of the information on the page then click the Create an Account Button at the bottom of the page.
After the account is created you can then login to your account.

I can also register the domain for you and have it setup on your forum if you are having issues with godaddy.
