Are you taking about all Simple Machines Forums or just SMF for Free?

SMF the company started offically on the 3rd of September 2003, I have no idea when SMF for Free did.

SMF for Free registered on the Support Forum on August 09, 2005, 06:05:17 pm
I would assume it was around that time that the service began.. at least it is when the Support Forum began.

There is in theory more then just those servers, because SMFree is another one, also MySMF but these may be hosted on the same servers. I'm not sure.

Yeah, some are hosted on the same.
There other servers involved in the server too...like image servers and database servers. Fun stuff. And more servers acting as firewalls.

Simple Machines Forum started in 2000 as Yet Another Bulletin Board Splinter Edition or YaBB SE, and due to YaBB's (the Perl version's) bad reputation they became SMF!
