jQuery
« on: November 14, 2008, 10:38:48 am »
Just a question for all of the coders here on smf. Why is jQuery the most used language (library) here? Is there a reason why most of the codes (excluding Moose's) are in jQuery? What's wrong with classic JS?
Just wondering, and it's interesting to see various perspectives. :)

not sure why..    but fyi:  Most of Moose's are jQuery as well..

This should probably be in the coding or programming section..  its not really an SMF for Free service related thing.   Will figure out where to put it then move it

We used to have a guy here who wrote everything using Javascript alone, no jQuery. Great guy, and his codes worked just fine. And it's not like they were written any better than Agent Moose's codes (or any worse for that matter)

Agent Moose dropped by and started making codes for us too, also a great guy. Presumably, he just found jQuery easier to use. It's just his own personal preference.

Codes work either way for both forums, and they work just fine. It's just the preference of the people who write codes for us. No reasoning why....regular Javascript works just fine too.

I know that Moose's codes are in jQuery :P I was saying exclude them because they are a huge chunk of the database.
I was going to put it somewhere in the coding section but there is no discussion area, so I figured it would belong here if anywhere.

Well, jQuery is much more newbie friendly and well, it's easy to use over here. Every forum hosted with the service has jQuery hosted along with it, and several of them have included it into their forum(since a lot of Agent's older codes were in jQuery), so it's not really hard to use(from a compatibility perspective) either.
