A couple of Moderation questions.
« on: March 24, 2008, 12:20:42 am »
Ok. I'm going to smoke off a few questions.
1. Since moderators on here run the biggest forum and Free SMF Host, is it an occupation? Or do you earn it just like on other forums?
2. If it is an occupation, how much does it pay?
3. Are you, SMFForFree, a business...and the Global Moderation of this forum is a occupation?
4. What is the age limit to apply for this occupation, if it is an occupation at all. I'm really looking into this. I am truly thinking about it...In a couple of years.

I will atttempt to answer your questions.

1. It's not a occupation, like a lawyer or teacher, you just have to have the qualities the Administrator thinks would make a good Moderator.

2. Weekly Salary=$0

3.  SMF works at a real job and hopes someday to grow his forum business to the point it will support him.

4. I don't know that there is an age limit.  Personal maturity, attitude, ability to express yourself in a business like manner appear to be major qualifications.

There is no application process.  In my case I just got an e-mail one day asking me if I wanted to take the postion.  I had never asked about being one at all.

I get paid nothing at all. It's not a job or an occupation. This is just a hobby of mine.
This is just something I do when it's too early in the morning to do anything else. It's not like I have any power over the service at all anyways....I just moderate this forum.

I was asked to be Global Moderator after another moderator referred my name as a good second moderator. I was...uh...I think 15 when I was asked.
Age is never a factor, or at least it never usually is. A lot of people are surprised when I tell them, "You know, I'm only 16"
You just have to be over 13 if you are United States resident or host your service in the United States.

I don't like to consider SMF For Free a very profitable "business" at all anyways. Hosting costs alotta money now eh? People do make a lot of money on the internet now but it takes time, like any business, before it starts to bring in enough money to actually live off of.

Did my answer help you? Want to help out hosting costs?

As Laundry Lady and Crasy already stated this is not an occupation.

We do this on our own time.. its totally volunteer ... we are paid nothing for doing so.. it is not a "job"

When or if Moderators are needed is totally up to the Administrator (SMF for FREE)   It has nothing to do with the amount of posts you make,   or that you just want to do it.   There is a lot to moderating a Support Forum.
