word doc simplication
« on: March 05, 2008, 02:49:55 pm »
I am new here and was wondering if anyone on here could help me out. What I am Trying to do is make a colamerate doc site (not sure what to call it but ill explain what i mean). Basically when i start a thread on my forum and i attach a word document for others to read or say what needs to be changed it becomes a mess of posts from people saying what needs to be updated and others reattaching the doc with the updates of the original file that i attached. Instead of having to make a mess and having to reattach the word document again I was wondering if there is a service where i could upload the file to and place/site and place a link so when people want to make a change to the document they don't need to download it but instead up open it and edit it. Then it will update my document with out having to repost it again. If they could open it off a web page and then edit it then it will automatically update the link and when someone else wants to make a change they can and so on. Is this possible? If so it will help the flow of my forum thanks.

Man I think you are going to have to do some googling on this one unless someone here knows of a way for you to do it thru your webspace.

I need to move this over to General Chat as its not really a support issue.

Heck I don't even know if there would be a way to do that with Word.
You could do it with a pdf file..   if you have writer and are able to create one and set it correctly, and of course the webspace to upload it to so they could access it.    (Im just thinking out loud.. Ive done that before for work reasons for my husband but its been so long that Im Acrobat rusty and would be useless to help with that)

ok well ill have to keep doing some research then. It would be nice to have like a online server that they could just open and save it on there and have the link go to the file on the online/web sever. would something like this work you think?

without going thru it and reading all they offer and let you do, i dunno.   In order for someone to edit things on there you would have to give them your login and password though so that may not be a good move.

Have you considered using a wiki for this?
