The software itself spawned from yabb(special edition), which was a php version of yabb which was a perl bb. I think the first developers would have been Joseph Fung, Jeff Lewis, and [Unknown].

no sneaky about it.   he's used that name for years many places.
When creating this forum he chose to use the name SMF for Free as that is the name of the service.
He uses "EzPortal" on his EzPortal forum.   "SMFHacks" on his SMFHacks site. etc etc.
