Look around at the rules used on other forums, not just smf forums, forums all over the Net.   Look at the Rules HERE at support  (located at the top of most of the Boards)  You CAN copy them.   They actually came from my own forum and were given to SMF as a suggestion.

My opinion is to put the obvious things in the rules. 
Things like no spamming, no illegal activities, no pornography.

when discussing rules for here I gave it to him purely as some suggestions expecting he would edit it to his own liking  ..   nope..  he stuck it here exactly as I wrote it.
