this is going to seem like a stupid question now, but is higher better yeah?? and i'm supposed to have 8mb broadband so what should i be getting roughly for that??

Yes higher is better - it means you will have faster upload/download speeds and you should be able to surf the net faster.

As for what speeds you should be having, we dont have any way of knowing what you "should" have. Go to your ISP website and see if they have an internet speed test (most do), and test your speeds. You should also be able to see what your ISP says should be your minimum/maximum speeds with the package you are paying for. No ISP can guarentee a "max" speed but they can guarentee your minimum. If your not getting the minimum they need to be running a test on your lines because there is a problem somewhere.
