warning system
« on: September 15, 2006, 01:33:25 pm »
we need a warning system installed so we can give propewr warnings

atm im improvising but it would be better to just click a button saying warnin member, then it says reason and remove date, then you type it in and a pm is auot sent to the user with the info submitted

and if you have rite permissions you can see how many they have and warn them

just suggestion

its probs best thing i need for my forum

thanx

You can use Profile Comments in the same sense kinda.

Just remove your members permission to view the comments.(or add comments at least) Everytime you want to warn someone just drop a comment in their box.

Well presumably your idea would take just as long though.

The profile comments are just "Add Comment" then you add the warning there and save.
However if what you are doing works then maybe stick by it and keep the Prfile Comments for your members to enjoy.

My site uses a Member Group type warning system. I assign member groups for "1 strike" (yeah, we use strikes) al the way to "4-strikes" on the fifth, their temp banned, or I can permanently ban them.

As for warning posts, I just have moderators PM me when they think that a post deserves a strike.

I only will give one warning, and after that they are permanatly banned. However, I hadnt had to do that yet.

They go around their ban?

IP and hostname ban them, see if that helps. It might not be worth it for them to keep going around.

Well it isn't hard sometimes to get around an IP Ban...usually dialing again sometimes gets someone a new IP.

Next time ban the e-mail, hostname and IP. That'll often keep people away. Or at least keep them busy.

For my ban, I edit the permissions (using member group ban system) so that they can't PM, veiw PMs, Store PMs, I basically Deny all permissions.

Would they still not have the service of viewing your forum though?

I prefer to just IP ban...stop 'em in their tracks from doing anything.

lol crazy

but on-topic i would probably ay for a warning system (but prefer them to just be added for free) because it would save me my smods and my normal mods sitting for ages scanning over all the warnings to make sure they are fair and giving them out
